We are helped by God’s gratuitous will . . . when some habitual grace is infused by God into the soul. And this is because it is not fitting that God should provide less for those whom he loves with a view to their obtaining a supernatural good than for creatures whom he loves with a view to their obtaining a natural good. Now he provides for creatures of nature not only by moving them to natural actions, but also by bestowing on them forms and powers which are the originating principles of actions, so that of themselves they tend to movements of this kind. Thus the movements by which they are moved by God becomes connatural and easy to them, according to the text of Wisdom 7:1, ‘She orders all things sweetly.’ All the more, then, does he infuse supernatural forms or qualities into those whom he moves towards obtaining an eternal, supernatural good, whereby they may be moved by him sweetly and promptly towards obtaining the eternal good.53
